Generally I don't throw my AEG at the target so I've never had complaints about the sound of my AEG whizzing past someone's head.....
On a more serious note. The speed of a bb does have an affect on the sound it makes as it passes by. However, the shape or inconsistent shape of a bb and it's surface has a greater affect on the sound. Hop-up would also affect the sound.
