Still if you compare THAT to the cost of buying a "platform gun" ie. a TM M4 only to buy basically enough new parts to almost have TWO guns at the end of it.
Building your own can be great if you know exactly what you plan to have at the end result. Otherwise, you're just changing part after part after part and running the bill up for no reason.
If you don't have a hard set game plan, then just get a ready to go out of the box gun. If you don't have any experience at all with gun docin' then go with the out of the box gun. If you don't have anyone around willing to help you learn how to mod the gun, then stay the heck away from building your own.
Also, you can run into problems with the same product in different ways. Case in point, I installed a metal body onto an M733, at every turn I had trouble with this one. However, the same brand/version of the body gave me no problem installing on another gun. Just with the one I ran into trouble with alignement and fittin for some odd reason.
And then there are hop ups, have you tried assembling these? Garenteed first time around you're going to fuck it up. And then have to try again, and this time you have someone there, that kindly decides to strategically start hiding things! (You know who you are!)
Buy the ready built gun, and forget about trying to smuggle them in. Unless you plan to get a speed boat and smuggle the M16 up your butt to get in, cause there are very few legal channels left for airsoft to be imported.
