I made sure that there is zero binding in the movement of the chamber. It snaps back in a healthy and friction-free manner with finger pressure. Even moving it a small amount and letting it go gently - not allowing it the advantage of 'snapping' back - still allows it to return to its resting position.
My band-aid solution has been to put things back to stock plastic slide etc.
It's working fine - well, it's got a double-feeding issue which I haven't pinned down yet - but the nozzle doesn't seem to be sticking...
