I'm suspecting that there is a weak connection between the battery plug and the "mechbox battery input plug".

Maybe when you insert the lower into the upper and then connect the battery, the shitty tamiya connectors are stretched and therefore not enough current is passed through.

Solution:

Re-solder the battery connectors or completely change them to Deans plugs.
