I clean my barrel after every day of play, after every few games if it's really dusty or dirty out. Simply swab out with a small cotten patch soaked in lightweight silicone oil - repeat until the patch comes out clean, and remember to turn your hopup OFF when cleaning the barrel.
I do a quick wipe all over with a cloth with a bit of silicone oil after every day of play to clean. I put one drop of lightweight silicone oil in the hopup before and after every game day.
I disassemble, clean, and regrease my guns at the end of the season when I'm storing them for the winter (we don't play outside between December and March in Winnipeg).
For AK's make sure to use blue locktite on all 3 of the screws in the stock - they have a tendency to drop out. It's always a good idea to keep a couple of spares handy - the size is M4 X 10mm and they cost about 28 cents each at Canadian Tire.
Also, the front site will eventually get wobby; fix that up with some teflon tape around the barrel under the front site. Then use blue locktite on the grub screw under the front site (it's under the fake cleaning rod).
