Airsoft2day was given the unique pleasure of interviewing James Chan, Managing Director of WE Tactical Training International Ltd. (WETTI), at SHOT Show 2012 and gaining insight into a company that is at the forefront of producing gas blow-back training platforms. Since the early 80's, WE-Tech had been the premiere developer and manufacturer of steel molds for many major airsoft companies [1]. Launching their own line of full-metal airsoft pistols and rifles starting in 2003, the company is well-regarded for producing many new airsoft replicas in quick succession.
To begin with upcoming WE replicas, the first model of discussion was the anticipated Snayperskaya Vintovka Dragunova (SVD), first revealed last year on YouTube. The gas blow-back model, like the authentic Russian based designated marksman rifle, will discharge in semi-auto fashion. Powered by HFC-22 gas, a Co2 magazine may eventually be released to offset cold temperature hindrances. As a company policy when developing a new series of guns, WE-Tech favors making various models. Presently, the SVD replica will be available in wood and synthetic furniture configuration; a Snayperskaya Vintovka Dragunova Skladnaya (SVD-S) is a possibility, but only if enough people show interest. The airsoft replica is in the 2nd proto-type stage and should be released following IWA 2012, where it will likely be displayed.
Those waiting for WE-Tech to release their gas blow-back Mashinenpistole 5 (Mp5) will have to exercise their patience further as the replica is completed but on hold due to licensing issues. Cybergun and Umarex exclusively hold license rights to Heckler & Koch trademarks and thus far just cannot come to an agreement with WE-Tech, leaving its submachine gun model postponed indefinitely. Conversely, WE-Tech have acquired license rights from Steyr Mannlicher, through Action Sport Games (ASG), for their gas blow-back AUG replica; however, a lack of cooperation between ASG and WE airsoft engineers has delayed production of this model. Perhaps most unfortunate, the bullpup gas blow-back P90 by WE-Tech is currently on-shelf due to "technical difficulties". Cybergun, based in France, is the exclusive license rights holder of Fabrique Nationale (FN Herstal); because Cybergun wants WE-Tech to pay royalties for the FN license, there is a chance that the personal defense weapon replica might not be released.
Looking into the future, specifically this year, WE-Tech will focus on producing gas hand-guns rather than long-rifle firearms. Proud of their latest P226 gas blow-back pistol, a replica that will set a new standard for all future hand-gun models, WE-Tech would like to "Let the people decide if WE is worth the money". In addition to products, WE-Tech will also change its video focus; future promotional videos from WE-Tech will be official and more Hollywood-like in appearance. Unfortunately this means that there will be no more James on YouTube videos; for the followers of WE Airsoft's YouTube channel, James would like to acknowledge all the people posting comments for his return and to thank all of you for your continued support of WE-Tech.
