That was my point. After I did my first Airborne kit it cost me $100 to do a late war Airborne. Then when I wanted Ranger stuff the only kit I needed was a haversack, and of course a fully different uniform down to the service shoes. I went original on some, but if I went all repro I could have done it for $300 or so. Then with the Marine kit, they used either Marine specific stuff(canteen carriers, field dressing pouches etc) or regular army stuff, so again all I needed was the HBTs and a helmet cover. The service shoes for my Ranger kit are the rough outs, which are the same as boondockers except the tread is different. Nobody makes a really good repro boondocker so the rough outs are good enough. My point was that the expensive part of getting a kit together is the actual webbing, which often goes across different units. Like the pistol belt, M1 ammo belt, and BAR belts I have can be used for Airborne, Ranger or Marine for example.
