for an airsoft version, would cloth hanging in the box work as well as the putty? I used a similar method for my archery backdrop.
get some canvas, fold it in half, and just hold it in place from the top so it hangs loose. this makes it so when an arrow hits it it crumples inwards to absorb the energy. this would mean that there is nothing getting worn down and needing replacement. or at least if you do have to replace it, it would be about 50 cents to replace it.
