Mini Vortex darts (looks like a mini football with a tail) are 38mm and fit perfectly in any long-type launcher. Just don't load BBs in any 40mm shell and it works.
Of course, you get better range with a longer barrel. You also want to wrap the dart with tissue paper so that the rubberized surface don't grip the walls of the tube.
