if you mean "race gun" as pistol with rds and comp the biggest issue would be finding a holster. Even if you did miraculously find a large enough holster, race guns often have extended mag releases which a soft holster would engage constantly. Ipsc holsters (the ones that go into barrel and hold on to trigger gaurd) I dont know much about but dont look like they do much in terms of protection.
Unless you plan to run pistol only in which case that would be fine
