It depends if your trigger switch and has an electrical safety. Most stock guns come with electrical safeties, but some aftermarket switches do not.

Basically if it has an electrical safety the switch contacts are not wired together and need that metal plate to complete the circuit as well as the trigger being pulled. If you have an aftermarket switch with no electrical safety, then the only safety is your physical trigger blocker.
