Ics m4 r.i.s help!!!!! Calling all doctors!

I recently bought an ICS M4 R.I.S off of Mach1airsoft.com.

less than a week after receiving my gun the gun stopped firing and whenever i pull the trigger the gun makes a high pitched almost grinding sound. The guys at mach1 have been very helpful in providing possible solutions however, none have worked so far. They are contacting ICS to see if they know what is wrong but I was wondering if any of you guys do.

The gearbox vibrates and makes a high pitched spinning grinding sound whenever i attempt to fire the gun yet no BBs are fired. The sound is continuous and vibrates the gear box as if something has detatched and the gears are just rotating.

I have tried to push in the mechanism at the bottom of the pistol grib but that seems to only speed up and make the sounds higher pitched.

PLEASE HELP!

motor height ajustment maybe?

Kittylover1234 July 7th, 2009 11:06

what is that? and how can i fix that? If it is the adjustment at the bottom of the hand grip i tried that

pinion gear on the motor might have loosen up. If you can hear the gear turning in the gearbox its probably a broken piston. if the motor can hardly turn gears id sugest you dont try it too much you could burn your wire and plugs.

Kittylover1234, under the trigger grip, you will see a small hex nut,( I don't know what size). Try adjusting it and test firing it.

I would suggest you give it to a local guntech .....he'll have a look at it....

If the gears are spinning and the gun isn't firing, you have a stripped piston or VERY stripped gears.

piston has stripped out. take it to a tech, open it up and replace.

Mach1 Just asked me to send it back, however M102404 Helped me look in the gearbox and maybe this can help other people. this is what he told me

So...with the rifle open and the upper mechbox out, when you pull the trigger the lower mechbox cycles right?
- but it sounds horribly loud?

Motor height adjustment is done like this.
1. Screw the adjust all the way in...don't torque hard on it
2. Unscrew it two full turns, fire a semi shot
3. Keep unscrewing it by half turns...you're aiming for the quietest/"dullest" shot sound.
4. Then go 1/4 turns in or out to fine tune
At it's dullest sound (some setups are noisy anyways, others are deadly quiet)...that's the proper engagement.

When you shoot in semi...does the sector gear (the one that engages the upper piston) stop spinning on it's own...or does it keep going until you let go of the trigger?

With the upper closed...does the piston actually get pulled back and released? You should be able to hear/feel the "thunk/whap" of the piston hitting forward...with or without a bb coming out.

Thanks M102404!!

I'm having this exact problem, cracked the upper open and sure enough the piston gears had cracked and broken leaving small pieces of plastic to get chewed up by the gearbox.

1- Remove the rear body pin.
2- Lift the rear part of the body open.
3- Remove the upper mechbox.
4- Check for damaged piston (It should be almost perfect, mostly the rearmost teeth).
5- Plug the battery and press the trigger. You should see the gears spinning.
6- There is TWO screws for height adjustment on newer ICS rifles. Remove the first one COMPLETELY, then you have access to the second one.
7- Fully screw the adjustment, then remove 1/2 turn. Test and check for high pitch noise (no grinding, just high pitch). If the gun sound high pitched, unscrew by 1/8 turn increment. If it makes a lower pitched grinding noise, screw in 1/8 at the time.

8- If it still does not work, send it to your local gundoc (or to me if you are near Montreal).
