Im new and looking for a vest

I have looked at pretty much all the threads on this website and I still cant figure out, what vest to get. I will be playing alot of CQC but I may have the occasional outdoor game. I'm also looking for one that is designed for a MP5, but all the molle setups I have seen are for M4 mags...do the MP5 clips fit. I dont really have a budget but i dont want to spend alot on it. Any suggestions would be helpful

You can buy MP5 Molle pouches! Molle is great for customization.

DJBackfire September 15th, 2008 20:54

I cant find any place that sells them. do you have a website for it

Beazer September 15th, 2008 21:02

Paraclete usually has them available.
However if you wanna go cheaper, go with pantac or something from flecktarn.co.uk, not real but you sacrifice quality for price with everything.

Thats fine if its not real. So im going to assume everyone here uses a Molle system or do they buy custom made stuff

I would suggest buying a vest that is less bulky (you do not want bulky kit for CQB). Extra pouches hanging off the side can hinder getting through doorways and what not.

There's basically a few ways to go if you want molle vest layouts.

1. Full vest / plate carrier. This is full coverage in the sense that a major portion of your torso is covered. This might be a good option if you expect to get shot a lot on your body, and you want to cover as much as possible.

Some have side plates for side body protection, it's up to you if you want that.

Real steel Eagle one as an example:

2. Zip up style vest. Sometimes comes in Mesh, sometimes it's completely cordura. Easier for on / off due to the zipper. Still has a lot of molle, so you can put stuff wherever you want.

Example of mesh vest

3. Load bearing vest / chest rig / etc.. Essentially it's the lower half of a vest with Molle straps. Lighter weight, cooler, but less body protection

It's highly likely that you will want to change the layout of your pouches often, so Molle is highly practical for that. There's tons of online shops that sell replicas of all of the above, so you should be able to find something in your budget. It depends if you need "real steel" durability / reliability, or if cheaper replica gear will do.
One combo that has worked for me is a replica plate carrier with real steel pouches. I've found that the pouches tends to get more abuse than the vest does (due to constant removal of mags, etc..) so that's one way to save some money.

There's also lots of companies that make MP5 Molle pouches, just do a search for them. Good luck!

ok thank you for the help on the setups, I'm pretty sure I'll go with a zip up because i dont really need the full on plate system

DJBackfire September 15th, 2008 21:17

Also I was just looking on the 511tactical website and they dont say what size of mags can fit in the mag pouches, does anyone have an idea

MadMorbius September 15th, 2008 21:28

It would help if you linked to the specific product in question - however, most rigs are pre-set with M4 mag storage.

DJBackfire September 15th, 2008 21:33

well there is this mag pouch that I was looking at http://www.511tactical.com/browse/Ho...:10911/I/58708. It does not say what size of clip it holds. And why are most vests designed for M4's

Wrath144 September 15th, 2008 21:35

It says it holds 2 AR mags, which = M4 mags.

DJBackfire September 15th, 2008 21:37

ok I thought AR only meant Assault Rifle, not M4. But what ever, I just cant find any that are for MP5 clips :(

Beazer September 15th, 2008 22:02

Finding anything real as far as gear is concerned for mp5 MAGS is always difficult and will be pricey.

DJBackfire September 15th, 2008 22:06

Great so I'm pretty much looking for a needle in a hay stack but in the airsoft world. So do you have any suggestions for pouches then that would fit MP5 mags. And i dont really care if its real or not, if its a replica then thats fine by me
