Camera's used on airsoft guns or headcams

Im guessing this should go here so anyways, Where do people get them, How much do they cost (cheapest but a good one), would regular video camera's work?

There's a Samsung that's very popular. I forget the model number but it has an external cam and microphone that you can attach to your shoulder (as I plan to), or onto your helmet if you're biking someplace, etc etc. The user Minjinracing has one and he apparently LOVES his, and I plan on getting one soon as well.

In the meantime, I just mount mine ontop, which is a Canon SD700is.

Check in the gear section, there is a recent thread about it.

Talk to Deep In The Bush as well, he can tell you anything. Hes such a gear nut when it comes to that kind of fancy stuff.

well Im gunna hopefully build myself a cheap helmetcam.
I bought this DXG videocamera, its really small, smaller than my digital stillframe camera, and i bought a 1GB sd card with it, whole package cost about $200. It uses mpeg-4 encoding and can hold a few hours of decent quality footage.
I wanna cut a hole in the carry case for the lens, and figure out how to mount it to my helmet. Ill use it sometime at Xtreame tactics and ill post it on the airsoft canada thread on youtube.
I'd still prefer the samsung one that everyone else talked about though.

:P Im talking my dad into buying me a kinda cheap one just to tape onto my gun and see if I can get a good quality video.

Best Buy here in Regina, sask. Has a R/C truck with a mounted camera on it that projects a vision onto the glasses, so what ever the truck see's you see, the price tag is only a $100 cdn, not a bad buy but not sure of range but i'm sure there are some tech gurus out there that can modify the range.

avoid the 604. Its a more compact version of the 504. It has a fixed 30GB HDD and a non-removable hard drive. The nice things, has a kickstand and slightly slimmer then the 504.

I have the 504 and I recommend it over the 604 for several reasons. It uses a standard laptop harddrive. Comes in models from 40GB(I have) to 120GB. Its battery is removable, and thus, a spare can be carried with you.
Expect modders to figure out how to easily swap in a new drive.

Both the 504 and the 604 use the same screen and are basically the same.

Both use the same docking station and can use the optional($150) videocamera

Should point out that the 604 comes in a wifi version. its considerably more expensive, but it has a touch screen and wifi connectability with an Opera web browser....awesome, yes, but still limited to the 30GB HDD.

If your on a budget, the Archos 404 is also available. It is the same as the 604(same thin design and 30GB hdd)

a newly released 404cc is now out also. it has a built in camcorder on the back...not much good for airsoft, but it can also use the helmet cam attachment like the others.

you can get them from futureshop to shoppers drug mart. Ranging from $270 to over $500.

If your on the budget, get the 404 30GB for $270 and order the camera for $150USD. Its the same as the 604 but smaller and a fraction of the price.

The thing with the Archos, creative Zen vison W, or other media players, is that they have a hard drive. Its great for loads of recording in awesome quality, but it is a harddrive...and its not gonna last forever if your running around...I have read several posts by people who take them jogging and are surprised when the harddrives fail.

the Archos products are the 04 models. The 604 is not better then the 504 or 404. All are about the same and built on the same design almost to a T. The only 04 thats different is the 604wifi.

the 604 is perfectly fine :P the camera is decent too, 640X480 resolution and it doesn't look like crap either. and with a few mods, the archos will fit into a PEQ battery box, or at least i'm hoping it will once i get my buddy's defunct box off of him.

and since the only difference between the 604 and the 404 is screen size and price, I suggest the 404 would be more suited for airsoft.

I personally use a Samsung SCX210L.

http://www.samsung.com/ca/Products/C...c_x210lxaa.asp

It's a great camera and the durability has been really good thus far. I've actually fallen on the camera and it's been just fine. It's designed to be a sports camcorder. It comes with the external head mount camera. The quality is decent on it as well. It's nothing to write home about but it’s good if you just want to view the movies on your computer.

The camera has 1gig internal memory and can take SD cards up to 2gigs. 1gig on high res video will last you for 28min. Just pick up an extended life battery pack if you buy the camera and you'll be good to take about 2 hours of video.
