ARES octarms or VFC AValon?
Can't decide between the two: Amoeba pro OCTARMS KM12/15 or VFC Avalon Saber Carbine?
|
VFC.

if you're not planning to upgrade, the avalon. If you want to go towards gun of robot, get the regular calibur without the factory mosfet. No point paying for extra stuff you will rip out.
I would never consider ares vs vfc. |
Gun of Robot is not a universally understood thing lol
The VFC is the better platform. |

It was a pretty big thing on the airsoft canada facebook page for a while |

I'm not planning on going gun of robot. I was told that the PRO OCTARMS had more reliable internals than the vfc avalon, but I wasn't too sure about that. Don't know too much about AEGs, just got into them, been using bolt action. I like the look of the Saber over the Calibur.

ares has a proprietary triggerboard/switch/mosfet/firecontroller. They embed a magnet into the sector gear in order for the sensors and software to function, if your gears break, you have to transfer the magnet to the new gears which means you have to extract it out of the gear. If the board breaks, you have to replace it with an equally shitty triggerboard. The higher end of the upgrade spectrum might be more difficult to achieve reliably with an ares because of those proprietary parts.
With a basic v2 gearbox with no frills, anything will work, basic mosfets, high end trigger board mosfets, any set of gears, any combination of parts. Some makers have better compatibility than others. It just so happens vfc is very consistent from one batch to the next so issues that come up are very predictable and you can put almost any part into them and they will work without having to dremel or transfer parts. |
Thanks for all the info guys! Anyone know of any Canadian sites that has the VFC Avalon Saber Carbine in stock??

VFC Avalon is far superior to anything Ares offers. The current gen Ares trigger board isn't actually that bad, I've yet to see one fail. The older ones were terrible, and that left a bitter taste in everyone's mouth. Ares gearbox tolerances though are pretty bad. Their bushings are aluminum and will wear very quickly, though some of their gearboxes come with half bearings. Their pistons and gears are not made to a high QC standard, the air seal is usually pretty bad.
VFC Avalon basically took the three main failure points of old gen VFC gearboxes and resolved their issues. New tappet plate, new piston, and a MOSFET installed inside the gearbox. They are the best stock gearboxes on the AEG market along side LCT's current lineup. Google is your friend, there are plenty of retailers in the GTA that have them. If you are really struggling to source one, I may be able to help. |
Good info Z, thanks! The only one I've found around the GTA so far was at Gear Up Airsoft online, but when I went there, they said they were out of stock. Toronto Airsoft doesn't carry it, Airsoft Depot doesn't carry it, Mach 1 only has the saber CQB and Calibur, Hero Outdoors doesn't carry it. I don't know any other airsoft shop around GTA. All american sites are out of stock, red wolf is out of stock. The VFC Avalon Saber carbine is no where to be found! Help finding it around GTA will be much appreciated! I've been googling my fingers off
