Eagle A-III Pack Frame

Im just wondering what this is made from? I'm only asking because I'm flying down to Australia with my RAID pack as a carry-on. If this is metal I dont want customs saying "you cant take that because you could bring it out and cut someone with that....... "

I dont have this yet.. Its in my order of stuff.. if I did have this I wouldn't be asking this question :innocent:

The trauma plate is not made of metal in a bullet proof vest.

At least, not mine.

Dude, it's not a vest, it's a PACK FRAME with no ballistic properties whatsoever.

Travis:
I have this particular pack frame and it's essentially a semi-flexible hard plastic sheet with a rigid aluminum stay that runs down the center. It's removable so you can conform it to your back. It's not sharp and I don't see how it can pose a danger but you never know with customs.

You can probably minimize the hassle by declaring you've got this aluminum stay and state it's purpose. I suppose at worst they'll tell you to remove it and place it in your checked luggage.

Overall, a good piece of kit that increases the pack's carrying capacity.

Are you bringing checked luggage? I.e. the stuff that goes in the big containers in the belly of the plane? If you are, then just take the frame sheet out, put it with your checked luggage, and reassemble when you get to your destination. Not only is this safer, but the lack of a rigid frame allows your RAID pack to be squished/crammed/manhandled into the "carry on stowaway area" under the seat.

Same goes for flashlights, multi-tools, knives, FAKs, and all that jazz. I put all that stuff in my luggage, carry my pack with candy and a pillow, and reassemble my kit when I get to my hotel room.
