Lonex sp 120 M4A1 complete gearbox

would this fit as a direct drop into any VFC m4 platform?

spaceman13 January 20th, 2015 00:29

I'd also like to know, planning on installing one in my VFC 416.

Yes, but if you really have $200 kicking around you're much better off upgrading the original mechbox than dropping in a new one just because its shiny.

i have zero interest in the fact its shiny. for me it would simply be the fact that if the original went under its fast and quick fix. i do not have the time or patience to tech a box. so the 200 is well worth it to me.

Thanks for the clarification though I do appreciate the info.

The bushing holes on mine are machined slightly off on one side for some reason,so it keeps shredding gear sets and whining like a dying pig.so a new gearbox is a must.

Its because Lonex is marketed as a high end brand but it is not. It is mediocre at best. They do make some components that are good though.

Well in that case the drop in may be worth it to some people. Do note though that you will lose the functionality of your bolt catch.

Well that's odd, I've seen over 30 VFC mechboxes and I've never come across an error like that from them. Are you looking at a whole drop in mechbox or just the shell?

spaceman13 January 20th, 2015 07:51

I'm looking for a full drop-in gearbox that will fit the VFC nicely.
I've never seen a VFC gearbox like that either, must be a lemon.

pestobanana January 20th, 2015 17:05

If you're looking for a replacement that will allow you to maintain functionality of your bolt catch, Mach1 had factory VFC replacement gearboxes, as well as just the shells.

lurkingknight January 20th, 2015 17:31

stick with the VFC gearbox if you can, the measurements on them are quite nice and the bolt catch of course...

No other aftermarket gearbox has the vfc bolt catch.

I also work on quite a number of vfcs and have never had this issue.

pestobanana January 20th, 2015 17:46

To be honest, every single AR I've built from scratch has used a VFC box. Not only to have the bolt catch function, but because it costs less than other aftermarket gearboxes and is probably just as strong. Lonex and Modify gearboxes are made of similar materials but they're shiny, that's about it.

Also to note, if you do get the Lonex mechbox, make sure the bearing bushings are the 7 bearing version, not 8. The ones with 8 are terrible and fail quickly even in mild setups.

The previous owner lost the parts for the functioning bolt catch so any good gearbox will do.
I got it really cheap because the internals kept failing, but the externals are beautiful since it never worked long enough to game it.
I wonder if the modify gearbox from airsoftparts would drop in with no mods required.
