(I apologize for a slight divination in topic here but I felt this was a relevant post with the upcoming release of "Max" a movie featuring a Belgian Malinois MWD,)
Because I like animals and love the breed, I have a special affinity with this movie but because I love the breed I have to keep telling anyone I can, that I while understand that anyone going to watch the movie "Max" is going to be so captivated watching this beautiful, graceful, athletic, super intelligent breed doing all the "cool stuff" that they have the ability to do. What they don't get to see is what what happens to a high drive working dog when it doesn't have a job. Panic attacks that last for days, melt downs for no apparent reason. Separation anxiety that causes a dog to injure itself trying to escape a crate then destroying your house. Not to mention the countless backyard breeders that will be simply breeding to make a quick buck without thought of the animals' well-being and at the cost of the watering down of breed.
If you think you want a malinois or a working dog think again. There are many dogs at your local shelters (many of them high kill shelters) who need homes ...I am sure you will find a dog who will suit your needs there. MALINOIS will not NOT pets!
If in the rare case you are a knowledgable dog trainer who is active, and intends on purchasing a Malinois as a working or sport dog do your research and do not support backyard breeders and puppy mills.
If you truly love the breed you will know how important it is for the preservation and quality of the breed that you spread this message to as many people as you can.
Please help us share this message.
