Notice to all re-enactors. Safety PSA regarding 3 individuals.

I realize this is a small piece throughout the rest of the community, but I wish to cover all bases in the event that you never know where these three might end up.

This past weekend, August 15-17th, was our annual Souther Ontario Military Muster show, where we put up a display and take part in a staged battle using blanks.

I was one of the individuals who got the brunt end of the stick where one of these brothers fired far too close.
I got lucky and so far no permanent damage is present. The other individual who was closer was also lucky this time around.

At the 2013 SOMM we had issues with 3 particular individuals, unfortunately this year they raised issue for the last time at Saturdays battle.

They were not allowed to take part in Sundays battle.

I would like it to be known unto all that these 3 individuals are banned for unsafe conduct at any event I personally have any say at.
Unfortunately their names are not 100% known, they are the Kelps/Phillips (unsure of spelling) brothers.
Located near LaSalle/Windsor area.

Firing at an unsafe distance.
Disregarded orders (IE - Supposed to take a hit at this time, not leave the trench, etc..)
Pulled a real bayonet and charged at an individual (Alec).
Got into a "theatrical fight" despite being asked by organizers not to do so.
Blatant disrespect.

Thanks for the heads up.

I believe it is time for you gentlemen to organize more on your original "airsoft" driven reenactment/games again.

No way jose!
We love our staged battles with blanks, we are tightening down the hatches on this ship.

Public loves them just as much, if not more heh.

Why would we stop doing something we enjoy, just because of a few idiots?
We could argue the same about airsoft events ;).

No. unless you can prove his intentions to assault you.
It's questionnable though and I agree these individuals are reckless.

^! This!

Also, it would create a lot of trouble for the event organizers as well, as they're required to keep all participants safe. Could ruin any/all future events as well with increase of insurance costs, lower attendance rates because of legal issues etc etc.

Best to just get rid of them before they cause any more trouble, and it appears this is what the organizers are doing.

I disagree with the soft approach or making people feel uncomfortable so they won't come back. In a big game there's nothing stopping them from totally bypassing the gate, hoping the fence and carrying on business as usual. Peer pressure and gentle bans haven't had the desired effect.

If this trio is as much of a repeat problem as described then a visit from the OPP etc. or other real world sanctions are called for.

They've been allowed to fester in the background and have fed of that because there results of their actions impacted the other players and that inflated their egos. Win, loose, follow orders, wear the right gear is um-important to this type of personality. All they want to do is leave the biggest shit storm possible in their wake.

Time to give back.

I concur! The trainers at the local woman's yoga club have told me I am not allowed to loiter around the front window anymore. Not wanting another restraining order I agreed, I now bring binoculars to watch from across the street.

WOW, people cheat in war reenacting too? What do they get if they win, the satisfaction of knowing there side won WWII in some alternate universe and they get to live out there GI Joe/Nazi Zombie fantasy?

For this particular event, you MUST pass by the RSO to get onto the battle field.
RSO was advised of these individuals, when they showed up to take part Sunday they were told.
If they happened to sneak past the fence as you say, we were prepared to cease the battle and call OPP (which happened to be right next door from where this event took place)

If they make an appearance at any of our future events, it is easy enough to ID them and ask them to leave. If they refuse, we call the police then.
Everyone of our members is on the same page with these folks.

The reason they made a second appearance, is we frankly did not have a whole heap ton against them from the previous years.
The first year 2012, they were a great bunch of guys, sat around with us for awhile and chatted. No issues.

Second year 2013- One of these individuals told the C.O "Fuck you, you're not *my* C.O, I'm not following your orders" To which they did not, but they still acted safe and were not a huge ordeal. Just a minor issue.

Third year 2014 - They blew it all.
They appeared to be collective and with it, there was no "Fuck you" out right said or implied. During Saturdays briefing they were told what they would be doing and when, we all went over safety as usual.

Some people change for the better, these folks simply changed for the worst.

Character is it's own reward. Their playground is going to continue to get smaller. This community is not all that large and bad behavior will reap an bad reputation.
