Need Help Bad

I've tried to PM local gun doctors, Not One has responded so I'll try here.

I NEED someone to take a look at my Ares M4! I'm in Toronto
I installed a brand new mosfet. Wired from mosfet to motor, mosfet to trigger to motor. Soon as the battery is plugged in the motor runs wildly. Wtf
The gun uses a microswitch, so I can't test it without the mosfet, I've already had to change two switches :/

There HAS to be someone near me who can help

Pm gbbr.

He lives near you.

gbbrs banned remember?

What MOSFET are you using? I kind of feel guilty now as I suggested you to run a MOSFET with the microswitch...
Do you have a multimeter? It is useful to diagnosis some of MOSFET problems.

gbbr is unbanned now, last I saw.
OP: gbbr's ban was a "joke". It doesn't reflect on his trustworthiness as a gun doc.

Most gun docs do the gun doc work on the side, so they might just be too busy to log into ASC. I'm not sure how long you've been trying to get a hold of them.

No multimeter, that's the next tool I'm going to pick up.
Its some dinky little JingGong prewired basic mosfet I picked up at airsoft depot, I desoldered the trigger contacts and put my microswitch in

I stand corrected about the GBBR thing. He's banned again. :3

But you can still PM him. He'll be back.

Sloth February 6th, 2014 18:25

I tried to PM gbbr, says he chose to not receive pms or something

If you can solder (I guess so).

Undo the wires from the switch, and with the motor hooked outside the gun, connect the battery. Make sure the two wire ends don't touch at first.

If the motor spins, your FET is blown.
If not, touch the two wires you undone. If your motor spins your switch is blown.

First case, find a FET that works with microswitches and use a VERY high quality switch, as little "bounce" as possible. They are usually rated for very low current, and have smallish internals that can convey vibration and "bounce".

Second case, same answer but your FET is still usable. You might be able to "fix" your setup (ie use a switch you already have and know works) with a 0.1uF capacitor in line with the switch (before from the battery side).

Sloth February 6th, 2014 21:14

Thanks Kos-Mos I'll try that.

Brand new switch And mosfet, I hope they're not blown.
I only use 11volt lipos though.. lol

I'll post the results later :)

Kos-Mos February 7th, 2014 02:11

Sorry did a mistake.

The cap goes between the switch and MOSFET to be effective.

Sloth February 7th, 2014 20:23

So after testing it was discovered I blew the microswitch.. Again. LoL
I made a whole new wiring set up with a New switch, tada it worked.
Now it seems that the larger wire (16awg) is bunching up around the trigger and preventing the switch from releasing to open.
I'm moving the wiring to outside of the gearbox, hurray. :)
