Magpul Masada Reinforcment?

Hey guys,

Just wondering, since I amy not get the gbb version, and the aeg version has a gearbox that is prone to failing.....

Where can I get a reinforced gearbox and/or parts? Did magpul come out with a version 3 gearbox that doesn't split when it fired?

Scarecrow June 4th, 2012 08:22

What version is that mechbox? I just bought a Masada and I can say without hesitation, its a great looking gun, but the NIB internals suck ass.

Mostly all are vrs 2 boxes, but a few say vrs 3.... I don't really think any masdas use vrs 3 gearboxes.

The PTs Masada uses a completely proprietary mechbox. it's a half breed between the V2/V3

the gearbox is made by Ares. it has 0 reinforcement, and the front of the gearbox where it holds the cylinder head is prone to braking. the only thing i can recommend, is to use a cylinder/piston kit that uses sorbo pads to reduce the stress on the front of the gearbox as much as possible.

@Scarecrow - yea.. i have seen 1st gen JG clones with better internals. magpul PTS really dropped the ball on this AEG.. i just hope they dont have similar issues with their PDR when released in July.

I'm surprised no ones released a reinforced gearbox yet. It's getting to be a popular gun.

Does anyone know if the A&K Masada has a TM compatible gearbox?

AFAIK, it's a version 2 gearbox.

With regards to mechbox reinforcement, most people think of ADDING stuff to their mechbox, but why not try taking some items away? In this case, reducing the moving weight of the piston assembly via lighter parts? (POM piston head if there's an aluminum one currently installed, and using a lightened piston - SHS 14 tooth). Also, radiusing the cylinder windows and of course, installing a sorbo pad. All of these steps will greatly extend the life of the gearbox.

The Sorbo pad is a big one for helping the front of the mechbox.
I'm looking to get a new piston and piston head for mine. The new TM one installed broke, so need a new one.
Any thoughts Stealth? :)

Depends on what your setup is exactly. Right now the Lonex POM piston head is probably the best piston head you can buy, period. It's not aluminum so it's easy on the mechbox, shaped very well and best of all it's light. Most of the techs on Airsoft Mechanics are currently running them.

As for pistons, it's a constant debate, but you have the choice of the SHS 14 tooth for something super light or the Lonex Extreme Toughness piston - been hearing a lot of good feedback on those so far. It's basically like a Supercore piston, but cheaper. Only limitation is that due to its design, it may not be compatible with all gearsets. The compatibility list is on the product listing. http://www.airsoftstore.ca/index.php...products_id=14

Another option are the new Madbull PX pistons. They're similar in construction as the SHS 15 tooth pistons, but the fact that you can buy replacement piston bodies for them for super cheap is a good sell.

The stock Marui pistons are pretty decent as well if you're not running a high FPS or high ROF setup (sub 330fps, sub 18 rps), otherwise they just get chewed up quickly.

The TM piston was that the tech installed,a nd it chewed up pretty good from what I hear.

I will have a look on your site and ask my new tech what he thinks. I don't mind having high quality parts.

At the moment I'm running Modify V2/V3/V6 High Speed Gearset. It doesnt say if Modify is compatible?

I only have the Modify SMOOTH gearset. If your gears are anything like those ones, the piston should work fine as I remember the sector to be thin. I'll double-check for you tonight.

Thanks.

I wish someone would
Make a drop in trigger. I want a MOSFET.

Guys at Black Talon Concepts are supposed to be working on a MOSFET for the Magpul PTS ACR. That is what I have seen on the forums but nothing forsale as of yet.

The mech-box is a factor but really the hop-up effects this gun more than anything I think. I find its accuracy and range are more of its down fall. I have been running one for a year now and that is the only problem I have with it. Plus getting internals when things go down from just plain wear not being abused.

Stealth June 27th, 2012 19:17

Whoops totally forgot, Takagari, yes the Modify gearset is compatible.
