BDU Help?

So I bought a set of Surplus Flecktarn from MaineMilitary. However, I'm worried about the camouflage pattern fading, and reading old threads all gave different advice. So, what is the best method to prevent my BDU from fading. Thanks for the info.

I heard washing them at first with white vinegar would help fix the colors

Never tried
Your call on that

That's why I made the thread. I heard that that worked, but, would prefer someone with more experience's opinion.

Avoid washing as much as possible. Often, hosing the BDU down will be enough to remove most dirt. For locally soiled areas, mild detergent (like hand soap) and a small hand brush to work loose dirt. Hang to dry. DO NOT WRING. Basically, follow the washing instructions.

If you must wash them, use mild, dye-free, brightener-free, cold wash detergent, preferably for dark colours. Use the gentle/delicate cycle, or hand-wash.

Do not use a dryer. Do not use fabric softeners. Do not wash with webbings, vests or pouches. Do not hang dry outdoors.

Works for me.

That I've heard, so that may be the best option.

Turn it inside out when you wash it.. use cold water. Hang to dry

if it is really surplus , and not repro the dye will be colorfast and already set.

if it's repro.. there is nothing you can do to keep it from fading..

Just a note on repro:
I have an OK repro in multicam, and washed it after games, and dried in machine and all.

I actually wanted it to fade as it's too green and colors are a bit to saturated.

Unfortunately, nothing seens to work so far. We could say it's a good cheap quality :P
