Use of suppressors on AEG's?
Are they practical or do they just look good? Like does it actually suppress the sound and make you less noticeable or does the whining of the motor still give you away?
|
Not very practical on an AEG but they do dampen the sound somewhat. They change it, lower the sound from a "whip whip" to a "whump whump".
On the TM MK23 non-blowback a silencer is amazing. On GBB pistols they do almost nothing. |
hahaha "whip whip" to "whump whump" is true, but it's mostly there for looks
|
They are more used for extending the inner barrel. It is an effective way and a good aesthetic way as well. So if you are looking for a longer barrel and you do not want to buy a whole new outer barrel go with a silencer.
|
So what would they suppress on? I know there are some foam filled made to suppress.

On a GBB it useless but looks cool On the TM MK23 NBB it is amazing the audible noise is next to nothing. |
Each gun is a little different, but I know it actually makes a big difference on GBBR's especially.

But on an AEG, if it's not cover for a longer inner barrel, it just looks cool. And a gun that goes "whump, whump, whump" should look like it's supposed to sound like that! ;) |

My supressed TM P90tr work great.
One of the few AEG that the supressor actually supress something. |
there was a superb post, kinda recent, that I can't find anymore, with decibels testing with different kinds of suppressors...
If I remember right, bottom line is : average sound decrease -> -20% to -40% with a foam suppressor. edit: found it, was tested with a mk23. http://www.justpistols.co.uk/silencer_comparison.htm |
Suppressors definitely take some of the sharp edge off an AEG cycling, but in my experience they don't really decrease the volume.
If you want to effectively reduce the volume of your rifle, look into a sorbo pad. |
depends on the gun and the suppressor you use, my UMP with the suppressor that's made for it is deadly quiet.
|
My gun doesnt make any noise what so ever with a suppressor on, oh wait I need to put the battery in.
