SCAR questions

I've recently taken some interest in getting a SCAR and after searching through here a bit I found this review

http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=78878

It is outstandingly in depth but it's from 2006. has anything major changed in the model line since then?

In the review it shows the stock piston being clear plastic (polycarb i think he said) and that his cracked, but that the madbull replacement required filing. Is there a replacement piston that does not require filing?

He also said that the motor is not strong enough for an m120 spring. Does anybody have a suggestion for an upgraded motor? I would like to get the rifle shooting just under 400 but as close as possible without varying above

I guess lastly is that it is my understanding the scar uses an m4 length barrel, I just thought I'd double check. Thanks

lol, I joined 2006, thread is from march 2009...

I've put in a TM stock piston since then, didn't require any modification, I think the madbull piston I got was out of spec.

I'm also using a TM eg1000 motor now, seems to be pulling an m120 spring just fine. Running it with a Lipo battery though.

haha oh i totally misread that. I would've posted in the review itself but i generally try not to necro things and when i saw 2006 I figured I'd just start a new thread.

Thanks for the information though. I've been torn between getting an ARES SCAR and a RS type 56-2 and the biggest thing holding me back on the scar was the idea of trying to file a piston down without ruining it.

it's all up to you on what you prefer out of those two. the thing I like about the ARES Scar is that it's modular. Need an indoor cqb rifle? you can swap out the outer barrel and spring for cqb length and fps limit. Want a DMR for outdoor play? swap the outer barrel to the sniper length one and change your spring. barrel swap takes 10 seconds, and spring change takes a minute.

That was my choice though, I didn't want to have multiple guns for different purposes when I could have 1 to suit all my needs.

CQB length outer/inner barrel combo

Sniper length outer/inner barrel combo

just don't buy a VFC scar H.... all available mags are shit... except the highcrap

I have a G&G Scar-L.

It's cleverly wired, but it can also be a pain if you want to drop a MOSFET in. Other than that, it'S a V2 mechbox. Mine has a whole new piston and nozzle set and a S110+ spring. Overall, it's easily the best gun I've ever fielded.

for that sniper outer and inner barrel, is the inner barrel 527mm? and can it be replaced with a 6.03 tightbore?

Daiviet December 14th, 2010 11:29

I assume the inner barrel length is 527mm. Replacing it with a tightbore should be no problem.
