Is it Legal to paint your guns?
Recently i ordered a Aftermath Lycaon Mp5j to use until i can meet with someone to get AV'd next month. My idea is in the classifieds I'll buy a long gun, but then have the Mp5j for CQB/Back up. Since it comes clear and a orange tip, what exactly are the law for painting guns, and removing the orange tip (Other than voiding any warranty's.)
Where we play its a wooded area that my friend owns and has a "camp" at, but since its only a few KM away we often just walk there to meet up with others, which would be bearing a replica firearm in public. Everyone in the area knows about us playing airsoft, since at least 60 of the guys around the town play, and the neighbors just joke about us going off to war when they see us. The group we play with, aren't very Hardcore, as in everyone has one mag, no BDU, and some still play with the Wall-Mart Shotguns :(. To sum it up: The question is, we can get by with walking around with airsoft guns, but i want to paint the receiver black and remove the tip. I was thinking of just painting it but the orange should be enough to let the neighbors know, but i'm just looking for your guys input and knowledge on laws about painting. |
NEVER EVER EVER EVER go out where ANYBODY can see your airsoft gun
EVER doesnt matter if its clear or orange or hot pink, NEVER in public view |
Doesn't matter I still wouldn't walk around like that.
No not illegal to paint it, clear is only for ease of importation once it crosses the colour doesn't matter (even if you commit a crime with a clear gun the crown still treats it as if it were the real thing and black regardless if it was pink or clear or baby blue). As for the orange tip law, it's a US law and NOT a Canadian one. |

Kinda like going 60 in a 50 zone... don't be a fuckwad about it and no one will care.

your first mistake was buying a lycoan (its crap sorry to rain on your parade) and no it is not illegal just if you do DO NOT bring it to the publics view.

it is immoral to do a bad paint job though... paint away.. and get a gun case to transport from home to field.. then you will have no issues with explaining to the local constabulary |
No, you may not get by walking around with airsoft painted or otherwise. And only play on approved venues that are designed to accommodate this kind of sport, such as a preexisting paintball field for example. And when not in play at an approved safe venue airsoft should be tucked away into a case or bag or box for transport to and from your home.
If you follow those two simple rules I can imagine you would never have a problem with "the local constabulary" as stated before. |
I have to go with Brian on this...you WILL go to HELL if you make a bad paint job.
My ticket is ready as my first attempt so sucked. |
Alright, would a backpack or something do? Or do i need a whole legit case?
|
If it fits in a backpack go ahead. But anything more than a pistol or small MP5 won't fit in a backpack.

Out of sight, out of mind.
Words to live by. Cop cruising through town: Guy with a back pack.........Guy with a duffle bag........Guy with a guitar case.........Guy with fully automatic assult riffle......WTF!!!! |
Guitar case Desperado style FTW! (I use a $15 rifle case I got from Canadian Tire, you can get them from Walmart as well).
OR If you have large amounts of money get an Amati Violin case or something and store a P90 or other small/compact rifle in it. (Anyone get the reference?) |

I cant speak to the legailty of painting or otherwise..
However, after you paint it, treat it as a real firearm. Always treat it as though its loaded. Dont point it at anyone, unless you are in a game/milsim. Store it securely at home, keep out of reach of children. Always transport it in a bag/box in your trunk. Do not discharge it in public (including your backyard) Do not display it in public (inlcluding your backyard) In short, use your common sense. http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=30146 |
