body armor

is it illegal to import any type of body armor?
i'm planning to buy a US issued ACH/MICh helmet

Schlyder November 24th, 2008 06:18

I think kevlar helmets are prohibited items, same as body armour.

Vince November 24th, 2008 06:26

In short no. I imported 3 MICH, 4 PASGT, 1 LWh and never had problem

Schlyder November 24th, 2008 06:29

Hmmm everytime I see kevlar helmets they say they do not ship outside the US.
Where are you getting them from? I want to get a real PASGT helmet, and thought I couldn't so that is good news.

Dracheous November 24th, 2008 06:32

Perhaps its illegal to export out Stateside, but that was not the question. Importation of any soft armor should be fine. I think plates run into an issue but I'm not sure there.

ex November 24th, 2008 06:35

Amour is NOT illegal to Import into Canada. If you have a seller willing to ship it here your fine.

Schlyder November 24th, 2008 06:37

pretty sure body armour is prohibited for civies in Canada

Nope

Schlyder November 24th, 2008 06:56

So it's another customs SNAFU then. Well that's good to know.

It absolutely is not.

However most armor is EXPORT RESTRICTED from the US by the DoC. That's why stores won't ship outside of the US. Most individuals usually don't mind.

Vince November 24th, 2008 07:55

Oh I thought soft armor was prohibited though. Nice to know, I know my next upgrade on my IBAs :D

Sergeantmajor November 24th, 2008 09:48

try www.camstickscanada.com they have a few helmets.

edit. sorry wrong URL. fixed it.

macmachine November 24th, 2008 09:56

Hmm.. Domain for sale...

wey ferro November 24th, 2008 12:46

i have some soft armor coming. we'll see if it gets here.

ShelledPants November 24th, 2008 13:08

After the shooting Sunday night, 10 feet from my front door, I'm considering some soft armor...

I know soft armor is all fine, but what about plates? Same thing I would assume but didn't know for sure enough to state as such.

You mostly have to be worried about export restrictions from the states, methinks.

Correct. A lot of stuff is export-restricted from the US side, and not from the Canadian side. We're allowed to buy and import the stuff, but the US companies aren't allowed to export it. It's the same reason EOTech sights and such are so damn hard to get outside the US.

That's what I'd found when I did all my research about getting soft armor, but I never did look into plates. Just thought if someone was able to give a definite answer here before I spout wrong intel and someone starts pointing fingers while crying through bars trying to hide from some 6ft 4 sum bitch named Bubba.

Drake November 24th, 2008 14:52

Also keep in mind that it's retailers that usually can't export armor, but armor does get exported; it's a restriction, not a prohibition, meaning that DoC approval is needed.

There's armor (soft armor packs as well as plates, upto NIJ level IV) available in Canada, including Canadian products. So like airsoft, buy Canadian :)

Jayhad November 24th, 2008 15:45

I ordered 4 CIRASs with simulated armour from HK 2 years ago. They had a stop over in Iowa (I think) at the UPS sorting plant. They were quickly deemed to 1337 for my canadian ass and I got a letter from Homeland Fuckery stating that due to export restrictions UPS wouldn't be sending me my armour. I never got the vests.

In my experience you are ok if the armour is not coming from the US pretty much

airborneboi69 November 24th, 2008 15:51

i think he meant camstickcanada.com and we dont have any in store i personally work there however we just opened ourr paintbal section today

I'd believe that as Redwolf has put a warning not to ship their Pantac Ciras' (and other plate carriers) to the US.

Double Tapper November 24th, 2008 15:54

Why would there be any trouble shipping INTO the US?

CIRAS is patented by Eagle

FOX_111 November 24th, 2008 16:49

Armor is NOT illegal to own/buy/cell in canada.

There are some export limitations in the US and maybe in canada, like for the NVGs, but it still legal to buy/cell.

It's even legal to wear around as a fashionable clothing, like we saw in Montréal last year.

The catch is, if you get cought in criminal activity wearing body armor, they extrapolate your intentions and the shit you'r in automaticly get more sticky and stinky.

In downtown montréal. They don't allow it in bars and clubs. Schools are banning it.

You can buy cheap replica at your local thungs outfitter...

It's just pathetic. All gangsta wannabe.

Sergeantmajor November 24th, 2008 17:28

try www.camstickcanada.com if you want some Kevlar helmets.

Oh man, I wonder how many people have been wounded from shootings because they thought their friend's phattastic new outerwear was actually bulletproof.

"not enough" would be the correct answer. :P

Instant Darwinism?

FOX_111 November 24th, 2008 19:04

IMO, their lost of blood is only good for the society. As long as they don't end up crippled and dependent on our money to live.

ThunderCactus November 24th, 2008 22:16

Cold, but I agree. We shouldn't have to pay more income tax for someone else's stupidity.
HOWEVER, I'm not sure if this law has been altered, but a friend of mine had his dad bring a few toys into the city to show me some of the neat stuff he had out at his farm (no firearms). He was pulled over for speeding and as it turns out your not supposed to have gen2+ night vision or above level IIA body armor within city limits.
The whole gen2+ thing I think is total BS, but it makes sense they wouldn't allow you to have better armor than the police.
Of course this is just what his dad was told by an RCMP officer, could have just been the officer being a dick...

Cops are under no obligation to be truthful, and that sounds like it was all pure BS, specially if there were no charges, confiscations, etc.

Plus there are civilians with legit reasons for having body armor: some armored car outfits have guys supplying their own gear, bodyguards, I've seen some club bouncers who wanted ballistic/anti-stab, private security guards (like for alarm companies) that need to go inspect alarms on site (they're unarmed otherwise), etc.

mcguyver November 24th, 2008 23:03

I thought Farmboy had some plates for sale through One Shot Tactical. Soft armour I'm not sure on, but he did have some poly plates as well as ceramic at one time.

He's not on the retailer bar anymore though.
