It's AALIVVE!!! Well, almost. Tornado grenade video posted on my site!
It's UP!
http://airsoft-innovations.com/Grenade.html Not ready for sale yet, but you can see what it looks like and check out the first of a few marketing videos to be posted in the coming weeks. We've also repackaged our propane adaptors with silicone oil and duster adaptors into what we like to call a Complete GunGas Kit. We found that airsofters were not buying silicone oil to maintain their GBBs. We managed to increase production volume so we're passing on the savings by bundling everything together into a kit that fulfills almost all of an airsofters gas needs. http://airsoft-innovations.com/GunGas.html |
Oh fuck yes.

woooo
Someones a portals fan! |
Sweet, hope you still have that little black book Carl!!!
:) |
Don't worry. I don't forget my first supporters.
|
heh, your video just crashed X on my computer. Interesting.
|
..please 'nade responsibly?
lol .. got a laugh out of that.. after getting to test all versions out, I really can't wait for them to hit the market, see what the consensus sais about em .. awesome to see their getting close to done |
hehehe, portal, awesome.
Yup, still haven't changed my mind, I'm taking 3. Spray painting em pink so I don't lose them in the grass and also allows me to say to opponents that they where killed by a pink grenade. f0.9 on that camera.....wow, lowest I got is f1.8 for my Nikon and it can't even do video. |
Sweet nice MadMax, thats sweet. Send me a couple!!
|
Wow..... I want one, So not even an estiamte on the price yet?
|
Love the ad. AI has a good thing going - the website and promotions seem friendly and fun!
-Cheese EDIT: oh yeah the nade looks nice too :D |

Wow, I'm impressed with the design. I will have to grab at least once when they're released.
|
I love it, good work MadMax.. its been cool to see and hear about it coming along. Im scared now...
Give it a few months and there wont be any need to have AEGs and sidearms.. everyone will just be throwing nades! :P |
Wow...just wow....Incredible work. Good job and thank you. Will definitely be grabbing a few once they go retail.
|
they look great! are they reuseable, and what kind of pouch will they fit in? Like a flashbang pouch or what?
|
|

EDIT: What pouch do you recommend storing it in? Flashbang pouch what? |
FIRE IN THE HOLE!!!
This would be a fun way to wake the parents up one morning. :D |
Man i want one TOO!! maybe TWO!!! or more.

Finally a granade the dosent require new cartriges or one that the frame dosent fly all over the fking place and loose pieces. best of all we Canadian buyers dont hav to worry about customs getting thier damd greedy fingers on this bad boy when i order one! hehh hehh
I knew i was holding out for something special and i believe i just found it!! |
So many questions.
Must own. |
I thought he said it was like $85-$100 max for the grenade. Anyways, the video is freaking awesome. Mad funny with the animation. Interesting the way the grenade deploys the BB's. I thought it was going to be some crazy thing like the grenade Maple Leaves developed in Taiwan. But none the less, this looks very promising and impressive. R&D for it to deploy like that must have been a pain.
|
Getting it to work just right was a real bugger. Someday I'll have to collect all the bits of the previous proof of concept models and photograph a progression of grenade concepts. Maybe start an AI museum corner of all of the adaptor and grenade prototypes. A pile of tortured airsoft guns and accessories we devoured in the development process too.
The first concept in the design line that ended up here was pretty funny. It used a length of tubing instead of a spiral passage in shell halves. When the grenade went off the pellets hosed out and tubing whipped around scattering a disc shaped pattern. It's successor had two tubes which had thermoformed ends to try to get them to point up and down so they blasted cones. I was goofy looking and turned into a snarl of hose but it proved the concept of a spinning grenade pretty well. I was going to call that grenade the TentacleNade. There were many generations of timer builds too. The grenade in this first video featured a timer that had to be refilled with a small amount of water (around 10mL). It was consistent, but a little annoying to refill. I recently improved the design to not need water (which was pretty difficult), but I felt it made the product much better. V1 was going to have a water based timer, but I decided to jump right to V2 for this first release because of testing feedback. I couldn't afford to rent the camera again to reshoot with the new delay, but the current build performs quite similarly to the earlier water delay build. |
Great design. Would make for a fun 4th year engineering design project too.
Liked how you used the different coloured BBs to see the dispersal pattern. The concern I would have after watching the video was to how well it performs if it was rolled along the ground. I'm guessing the dispersal isn't as effective as standing straight up, but still effective? Looks pretty beefy too. Good for durability. But not too heavy that it'll injure someone if they get beaned by it? |
It tends to land sideways. I've never seen a grenade land and stay upright in testing.
It's damn durable, but I do worry about the bonk hazard. Still, it seemed obvious to all of my testers that they shouldn't be whipping the grenades at each other. It seemed that underhand tosses were easiest to control. Long bombing a grenade downfield doesn't work very well as you have no idea where it'll end up stopping and blowing up. You also risk losing it because it's hard to keep a long throw in sight. |

Im curious. How much gas does this hold exactly and could you compare it to say the size of an average gbb magazine well?
|
Not much. About half a TM doublestack mag of propane.
If you watch the video, you'll see heaps of aerosolized propane blasting out the grenade ports after it runs out of bbs. There's still gas to spare. |
Where do we sign up for the preorder??
Nice video btw. It made me download quicktime... lol |
video is also on youtube
|
Glad to see these are near production level now. I have been dreaming of mine ever since the pre order i made.
|
MadMax: I hope you brought enough for everyone, because I certainly don't want to be left out just because I live in NL :P
|
Fucking sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!!!!!!!... If there is one reason to get into airsoft, it's this. :D

The trouble is... no matter what the price, I've already decided to buy the preorder limit. I hate airsoft. |
Where's the preorder signup?
Nice vid Carl, but hire someone for the voiceover! ;) |
It is a rare Day
When a product enters the market that will fundimentally change the way we play.
CQB.. no more mutual mercy around corners... rooms and bunkers... no longer virtually insurmountable obsticals.. goobs hiding behind bushes... blamo.. see ya! Campers... your day is done. We tested these grenades extensivley at TTAC3, ( which is an ideal locale for the use of such grenades ) and to say that they "changed everything" would be an understatement. if you ever thought, damn... I wish I had a grenade here!.... well now you will. |

I've got cash with your name on it Mr. MAdmax :) |

I have money burning a hole where can I send it? LOL |
"I have here in my hand a blank cheque. You may wright on it any amount that you like and that is what I will pay for this product"
|
I took preorders at TAC-08 because everything was going all rosy. Birds were chirping, the air was fresh and manufacturing was trucking along. I've had some unexpected delays which dissuaded me from continuing to accept preorders as I didn't want to keep taking peoples money when I couldn't make a rock solid promise on delivery date.
As time passes there are fewer and fewer issues to address so I can start doing stuff like release information. I had a heap of people asking for info and I'm actually getting close to launch (with parts coming in) so here it is! |
Quote:
Well, I know what I'm going to be getting 20 of...(when released :() hahahaha |
It's gonna be a VERY different playing season this year.
Campers are gonna be fucked :D |
Here's a thread on ASC: http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=54204 :D
|
OK OK OKAY! Who do I have to stab or kill to get one of these?

AI made airsoft news
hopefully not a repost

I would not want to get beaned by one chucked hard... It would hurt.. but likley cause no injury. |
Some info in here.
http://www.airsoftcanada.com/showthr...hlight=plastic Apparently it is a plastic that is very durable. I think it is high air to plastic ratio in comparison to your standard plastic, but it is stronger than your standard plastic so I guess it evens out, due to the injection mould process or whatever. Carl, are you putting these together yourself with other members of AI, or you going to hire a group of people to help you? |
I want two and my very own copy of that well put together promo video! Well done Carl.
|
Well that good news too see these are coming out i was just about too order Escort M26A1 Gas Grenade but Im going to wait for these too come out
|
G'day,
Next up: A version that can be launched! {;
|
need regional pre-orders!!! must have from first run like my propane adapter :) Who's up for BC to save on shipping?
|
Good job MadMax and to all who helped him out through the whole process.
Questions: -Possible FPS upon exit? -If there is a pill box with 3 people in it and I throw a nade in and it lands beside someone will I be worried about hurting someone ? -I was wondering if you could do a small test- Get some poster size paper, like the ones teachers use close to 3 feet long and hang them in a room. Pull the pin and lets see the the effects not on a stand. This would show what Kind of a spread it would produce. -Will we have to worry about a nose guard lol now, so BB's dont fly up our nose? I have a feeling I might have to order a couple regardless :) Again Good job guys/girls?! Steve |
Your hard work will pay off. I'm sure you won't be able to keep up with orders for a long long time. I'm happy that you can make money off something you love, good for you. That alone is something a large % of people will never have. Good luck.
Fellow business owner. |
Independant taste tester
We have play tested these grenades extensivlly at TTAC3, and been involved in testing right through the proof of concept, design prototype, preproduction prototypes, and final revision pre-production prototypes.
FPS on exit.. enough.. but not too much.. even for close proximity ( had one go off right beside me more times that I care to count ) There is no worry about hurting someone from the expulsion of pellets.. you will kill lots of people... but you won't hurt anyone. As I type this I am sitting in a 18 x 12 room... if one went off in here EVERYONE IN THE ROOM would be hit ( unless they hid under the desk ) that is the kind of spread you get. Luxury! we used to dream of BBs flying up our nose! Quote:
|
AWSOME thanks for the quick response. Now One last request!!!! CAN CANADIANS GET FIRST DIBS !!! LOL
again thanks, Steve |
Quote:
Have 3 on PRE ORDER....BLING! ...and yes. Developed, tested, and sold in CANADA first. SHA DO |
Where's the rest of the stack to clear the room? :p
Funny video. Projection, more sales of bb's and propane. Question might have been asked, but can 0.12g bb's be used instead. |

I didn't see its dimensions posted anywhere.
Small enough for this? https://dstactical.com/product_info.php?products_id=873 |
One should be able to increase the muzzle energy by increasing BB weight, following the same principle as with gas guns.

saw the video and immediately thought PORTAL! kinda makes me wanna have some cake...awesome looking product man! cant wait til it goes on sale! |
Next step is a version that uses dried beans, or peas or something.
"Hey, is that your lunch?" *Points at dried peas* "No, I had some wasabi peas earlier." "Then what are those for?" *Pulls pin ...1...2...3* "Oh..." |
I estimate it to be 13 cm in height...
|
Good guess! I updated my site with size info.
|
Haha I love how you have an "awesome" spec.
|
These grenades will fit into M18 smoke pouches, like this:
http://www.tacticalsupply.com/cart/images/54SG00OD.jpg Dimensions are pretty close. M18 dimensions: Length: 5.75'' Diameter 2.5'' |

There's your next project on the list of things to do:
- make yourself a big-ol roller mold that makes food-grade ammo for the Tor-nade-o - R&D (aka - taste testing) - Purree and mold - Release several flavours of biodegradeable, edible, BB sized "yummunitions" - ? - Profit! |
Quote:
-finish first lot of grenades -sell grenades -make a fuck-ton of money -continue making grenades -make another fuck-ton of money |
. . .

Lol. I know, peas and stuff vary ALOT. I want someone to create a BB mold so that we can use ground peas into bb's. Then people can use em in nades and m203's. All people would need is a bench vise or something to get a lot of pressure or something. Mix with some gelatin, but low amount of water with gelatin as binder...IDK.

AI Claymores! |
M203 version.... Where this thing flies out and yeah... nuff said.
LOL I just noticed how thin the plastic was. Look at the picture, you can see the guides in the black version. Hey, are you going to try to make covers for these things like a pineapple cover and stuff? Or would that make it to big to fit into a pouch? Also I was thinking about a mod for those German's for those reenactments of the world war. It would just involve modding the outside and stuff. and adding some foam stuff on the outside of the grenade. This grenade is going to be sweet for mods. |

Carl put new pics on his website. Border on the right is kinda messed up. But you get the point. It is nuts.

These photos were shot with a DSLR on motor drive with a flash and 3kW of halogen lighting.
The two shots are pretty interesting as you can see when the pellets were illuminated by the flash and when they were illuminated by only the halogens. The bright circle inside the softer streak are pellets illuminated the instant that the flash goes off. The softer streak is the reflected light from the halogens over the entire shutter duration. You can tell that the flash strobe has a much shorter duration than the shutter time because the bright circle of the lit pellet is still substantially round. It's really neat seeing the transition from fast pellets emanating directly from the grenade in the first shot to much slower reflections from the ceiling and walls. The initial blast has pellets that almost all show up as longer dull streaks emanating from wherever the grenade was when it fired the pellet (it rolls around). Pellets moving perpendicularly from the origin and the camera show up as long streaks. Pellets moving directly away or right at the camera show up as intense dots or intense short streaks (moving almost parallel to origin to camera line). In a shot right after the blast, you see a lot more bright spots floating around and streaks moving in odd directions (faster reflections). They show up more brightly because they reflect light back to the camera from the same postition for a much longer time. Man I'm glad they didn't go through my filter. I tried putting on a plastic cover, but the strong flash lit up too much haze on it so I had to let the filter take the hits. It did get hit a bunch of times. I hate hearing the tink of pellets on Hoya glass. |
Madmax
Do you have any quantitative data on the grenades blast radius/range? I know from experience it's impressive, but it'd be nice to see a number or two that would allow people to visualize the area of effect of one of these. |
Quote:
|
It's really hard to estimate effective radius as the pellets do get thrown very far. I wouldn't consider the cast radius an effective radius as they're moving pretty slow at the periphery and most players probably wouldn't consider them valid hits (riccochets, not felt etc).
At TAC-08, pellets were going high enough to hit the 30' ceiling and cross over the top of the barrier netting at the live range falling onto retailers on the other side. Not dangerous, but if they can go 30' straight up, they can go further horizontally. I wouldn't claim a 60' blast diameter based on that, but pellets could be scattered over a 60' circle in a clear area. |

I took a quick peek, but I think if the answer's on the website, I missed it:
- After the 3 second delay, "detonation" starts. - How long from the start of "detonation" until all the BB's have left the device? I'm guess you don't have an exact number, but is it: - "snap of a finger" or is it: - " ka-WHOOOSH" ? |
Having been on the receiving end of these several times in testing, it tends to be something along the lines of <KLUMP thump thunk> "OH NOES!!!" <FLOOOSH!!!>
Once the timer is up, all BBs seem to leave the grenade in a fraction of a second. |
These would be great for flag raiders drug lab....
|
I was wondering if the timer was still adjustable so that it has mid-air bursts, since you said you modified the timer.
|
Quote:
1 sec gives you a great air burst... and is excellent for those pesky corner campers. |
O.O *Looks at my wallet**
