TM M14 - M1 Conversion A la Cheapo.

Hey all,

So, as some of you may know, I've decided to try to convert my M14 (TM of course) to a Full wood/metal M1 Garand.

I'll use this thread as an update to periodically let you all know how it's coming along. I would have put this in the Mods or Media folder, but when I'm done, I'll make a post there. I'd like to keep this one here, as it pertains specifically to WWII Airsoft.

So...

I bought:

Brand New Unfinished Walnut Stock (Retail Value - $79.95)

Front Hand Guard Unfinished Walnut (Retail Value - $29.95)

Rear Hand Guard Unfinished Walnut (Retail Value - $29.95)

Butt Plate Assembly (Retail Value - $29.95)

Butt Plate Screw, Lower (Retail Value - $1.95)

Butt Plate Screw, Upper (Retail Value - $2.95)

Butt Swivel (Retail Value - $7.95)

I found a SMOKIN deal and got this all for 120 Shipped from the states.

I have totally dissasembled my M-14, it's core is now safely kept in my gun case.

The stock should probably be here within the next couple days, at which point I will begin my mod. I'll be sure to keep lots of pics and lots of updates.

Cheers.

Billy.

Dude Keep it up as i would like to hear how you did it and how it turns out. I plan on doing this some time as well.

Good luck

quikstrike October 18th, 2006 15:20

Nice you ordered it, I'm gonna be doing it aswell, since phase one A of my mod went to hell hahaha.

Still wanna buy the wood?? :P

Answer me on msn, or I'm gonna have to drive to your house, and we wouldn't want that now would we?

Fader October 18th, 2006 17:53

Keep us updated Billy... I was wondering how you were making out.

Just an update.
The guy who sent the kit... marked my address down wrong. It's on it's way back to texas, and he'll ship express... 5 days.

quikstrike October 30th, 2006 13:42

Actually, Billy, I hijacked the delivery truck...

I'm sorry.

Hah, man I'm gonna stop by when it gets there. Lemme know.

Fader November 11th, 2006 17:02

Any updates Billy???

youonlywish November 12th, 2006 15:26

As of yet, still waiting on the shipment to arrive.

OMG really... That's not good my friend.

youonlywish November 16th, 2006 00:53

Good news, the M1 kit has been reshipped Global Express Mail. Depending on customs, should be here soon.

youonlywish November 26th, 2006 22:48

.

Good news.
The package has made it's way to stoney creek, should be here in a couple days at most.

MrEvolution November 26th, 2006 22:54

damn that stuff is taking its sweet-ass time getting to you eh? anticipation would be killing me if I was you.

youonlywish November 27th, 2006 20:02

So, the kit has arrived.

The only issue I can see myself having is fitting the AEG inside this wooden stock and making it all adaptable.

The conversion to make it LOOK like a M1 would be easy. It's just the stock that I was really looking forward to.

I'll update when I make progress.

Cheese November 27th, 2006 21:44

Wow man I'm very excited to see the result !

Krieg November 27th, 2006 22:02

Good News Billy finally!

Now put that Dremel to the wood and make it happen :D

forcerecon85 November 29th, 2006 01:42

i can't wait to see it either. alot of possible conversions rest on your shoulders and project

update

So,

I've figured out a way to get my plastic stock to get the look (using the tutorial on this site) and FEEL of real wood... this is going to quicken the process substancially. As much as I'd like to fit the wood stock, I'm going to keep it for a later project.

The conversion itself is coming along quite nicely.

I'm planning to solidify the plastic stock to give more weight. Details when i decide to do it, and commit to it.

I'll post pics somtime next week.

You'll all be stunned when you feel this stock... It's really incredible.

Billy.

MrEvolution December 1st, 2006 22:17

we needs the pics.
until next week, i shall be anticipating with much vigor.

Billy, which tutorial are you speaking about?

I should have all my parts by the end of next week. I also bought a wood stock but my plan was to convert it with the plastic stock first and then make the wood stock work later.

Fader December 27th, 2006 06:23

Billy... Lee...

Any updates???

MrEvolution December 27th, 2006 10:01

seems to me this thread and OAWWIIR have been moving pretty slowly these past 2 weeks. Must be the holidays.

youonlywish December 27th, 2006 11:56

Hey all.
I've been WAY to busy to work on the M1. Finally found a job and now trying to even out the financial balance.

Fader December 27th, 2006 17:00

No problem Billy... Just glad to hear that you're still alive.

leecas December 28th, 2006 10:48

I have all my parts in but because of the holidays I haven't been able to do anything myself. I'll also be posting my conversion on OAWWIIR.

News.

Hello everybody.

Well I have much news.

Firstly, the M1 project has been cancelled. I'm sorry for bailing out on those who were really looking forward to it but the truth is I just don't have to time to invest into it.

Secondly, I'm parting with my WWII kit for now. If I decide to get back into WWII later, I definately will, but unfortunately, rent money and tuition is higher on the list then WWII airsoft. I'll still be playing airsoft, but not with WWII kit.

My WWII kit is on Ebay, I'll provide a link through PM. I'm keeping the helmet cause it's just too damn cool to let go of, but the rest has to go, to much gear worth too much to just lay there right now.

Good news is, I'll still see you kids on the field.

MrEvolution January 1st, 2007 17:03

:O
:(
We'll miss you buddy.

Dogfood January 1st, 2007 22:20

Sorry to hear you are leaving. Hope to see you on the field soon.

leecas January 2nd, 2007 00:25

Wow... sorry to see you go Billy!

Tankdude January 2nd, 2007 11:56

Willing to sell the stuff to do the conversion?
