"Camping" gear
Roight!
I don't feel this belongs in the survival section because I don't want to be f$#@ing Bear Grylls or a prepper. I just want to create a list and maybe generate some ideas to make the camping part of weekend long events, what to bring, what not to, Good ideas etc. This isn't a backpacking list I'll be maybe 10-20 feet as most away from my vehicle. I know this section is usually about trying to be operator as fuck but here goes! So my rough list for stuff to bring for the "camping" part of a game follows: Things starred (*) are to buy. Tent/tent pegs/ Ground cloth Hammer/mallot Sleeping Bag Sleeping roll Two Coolers Camping stove* I'm thinking wither a whisperlite international or a two burner colman propane Travel pot and pan* Pressure cooker?* Tarp 100 feet of shock cord Folding table Folding chair Extra clothes I know I'm forgetting some stuff but here's a start. Thoughts? Ozone |
depending on the area, i'd suggest glow sticks for the support ropes. walking into those in the middle of the night are not fun for anyone.
|
All my camping stuff is set up to be run off a pack but here is what I carry
Tent - LiteFighter Fido 1 Sleeping Bag - USGI set or if really warm Snugpak Jungle Bag Air Mattress- Big Agnes Air Core because I am a side sleeper. Pads are often too thin and take up a ton of room to pack Cooking - Jet Boil stove system Utencils - My strider SMF knife and a TAD Gear folding spork Hammer - My boot Chair - Walk Stool Clothes and other stuff depends on how long I am camping for. Food I usually take mountain house freeze dried meals. |
If you're next to the car, grab the Coleman and don't forget a lantern, Coleman has this neat little propane lantern, screws on the top of their propane tanks like most do, but it's a small one globe unit and able to be hung.
Perhaps some fishing gear if you like fishing and can do so in the area. |
I've got a
Coleman Quick-Lite Catalytic Heater Model 518B keeps things nice and toasty as well. I like this thread, Planning a camping trip up to Algonquin park this summer so a bit of a kit list would be nice. |

instead of a mallet/hammer what about an e-tool?

Outside of the army I often didnt find myself needing a shovel. I would be better off with a small bush saw or hatchet.
|
i find E tools are usually too heavy to carry, are you car camping or trekking out on foot/canoe?
Small axe is good as an axe or hammer as well, big axe will be great for splitting wood and hammer as well. |

As far as e-tools go, useful if you have to dig your own latrine, or a shallow grave for some hapless camper who stole your campsite, but not needed for most camping in this part of the world, at least in my experience. +1 to Mountain House meals as well, I'm particularly partial to the beef stroganoff. |
Haha, honestly? last three times I've gone camping, I've just loaded up a ruck, I didn't even bring lanterns or cooking gear,
I took: Jump Ruck 3 pairs of clothing 2 sets of boots (One worn, 1 spare) Ground Sheet/hammock/sleeping bag/Bivy bag/ ranger blanket/Mil air mattress (or foam pad, both work 550 cord Knife/Matches/lighter/tinder Hatchet two canteens and water purification tablets hat and sun glasses small sewing kit two small pots for cooking, what I find works pretty well depending on your area, is to find a flat rock and make a sort of table using other rocks, with the flat one at the top, make a small fire under it :P There might be some other stuff I'm forgetting but can't be much. Obviously this is leaving out food. |
Tent
Sleeping bag Hatchet Lighter A flint and file fire starter with a peice of dry cedar in the kit One them silver fire starter things (magnesium i think) Extra socks and pants and boxers One of those foldable stove things with those fule cans with the whick you can burn in the tent Propane tank and a burner for it A pot A fry pan Water MRE's Cooler (with some steaks bacon eggs snausages and other assorted goodies) Hatchet Assorted rope and paracords and bungee cords Some tarps Bunch of pegs. Air matress That of course is camping near the car. Airsoft camping. Two tarps 4x6 Bivy bag and liner if cool weather Extra socks and pants and boxers MRE's MRE heaters Folding stove and fule cans Pot Fire kit Hatchet Knife Ropes and cords Pegs Always water with either kit always lights and some extra bats often i will bring a coleman stove as well if im near the car |
What kind of tent do you guys recommend for backpack camping?
I was looking at a http://www.heroarmysurplus.com/stans...n-p-19612.html As for Airsoft a buddy of mine has an arctic bell tent. |
For backpacking just a tarp and a bivy bag

^that. But if yer really set on a tent look at the bivy tents. Baisically a bivy bag with two hoops so it stays up off of you to prevent condensation on yer clothes/sleeping bag. Tho you can just do that with a cpl sticks and some para cord with a normal bivy bag anyhow

crackers you don't camp you sleep in my truck......lol
|
Snugpak Ionosphere or Stratosphere or for more money the Fido 1 by Lite Fighter. If you don't care about the color MEC has lots of one person tents from MSR and the like that will work. They shouldn't way more then 5 pounds and pack up small.

Ozone, your talking about camping outta your trunk at a game. Some of the things that have been popular with the Hardcore guys is........
folding cot or Air mattress with wool blanket. Good sleep = good game. Picnic tent with screen, no bugs and shade = all good Biggest fkn tent you can afford. your frat-house. IIRC it was the Bastard himself that said , "any asshole can sleep on the ground, we can do better." then he opened the soup kitchen. oh folding camp chairs more the merrier. oh another huge hit was Bacon And Round Frypan guy. Not rain or Blackbear attack stopped this man, this bacon hero, from feeding the masses. The essentials are simple, but the luxuries, make for memorable games. Cheers |
