ex paintballer starting to airsoft Help

Hello everyone =] I used to paintball with a AGD longbow with a ghillie suit but now im selling all that gear and spending the money on airsoft!
So the G&G mp5 A4 max has cought my eye because i simply just love mp5's but is it a good gun? my playstyle for airsoft will be alot more active and frontline i hope atleast.. unlike my style for paintball sitting in the bush waiting or sneaking.. so i would like a small gun xD
and i must have a catus hobbies xD are they legal to use on feilds in the lowermain land? and whats the limit for FPS on feilds here?

Thanks guys sorry if i sound like an idiot lmao

all aegs are essentially have the same working functions such as all have a set of planetary gears that move a piston in a cylinder powered by a motor to create air propulsion to fire the bbs. Quality wise is the same as paintball you can go cheap with your regular AEG (TM, KA, G&P, VFC etc.) or go for the ultimate set up such as PTW/PTW5
it all depend how deep your pocket is. As far as MP5 I use a PTW5 which by far is the best MP5 out there but the cost is prohibitive for new players (around $3K after all the extra mags, batteries, cylinders) or you could settle for a Classic Army with a bit of mods much like a tiippman A5 with mods. ultimately it is all up to you how much you want to spend. remember buy cheap buy twice and the term you get what you pay for has never been so real when it comes to airsoft.

kbeckerton April 11th, 2012 19:17

The g&g MAX series essentially is the same gearbox with an overpowered spring internally. From what ive read they are prone to breakage because the parts cant handle the crazy spring. Also, G&G's plastic is a nice polymer, if youre looking at G&G specifically dont be afraid of their plastic guns.

Also, the fps limit in ottawa at least is 400fps with .20gram bbs.

Coward April 11th, 2012 19:19

can you down grade the spring?

kbeckerton April 11th, 2012 19:20

Yes you can, but i would suggest getting a gun doc to do it.

Also, if or when you get AVd you can get alot more info on this and some of your other options.

Coward April 11th, 2012 19:24

great! thanks for the info guys =]

for that amount you can get a very decent AEG and accesories to start, get age verified and you can get access to the classified or you can get a King Arms M4 variant with some batteries and mags or Classic army MP5 with some accesories

5kull April 11th, 2012 20:18

I have a VFC KAC PDW that comes with two inner barrels and two outer barrels which means it can be longer for outside games and shorter for CQB. The stock folds to the side like the real steel. It's the same thing as an M4 but can be the lenght of an MP5, m4 mags, M4 ergonomics.

Great good to know i think i found what i want =D but uhh it just says
In box 1 - Classic Army B&T Mp5a5 Full Metal, high cap mag and manual.. sooo does that mean im going to have to by the batteries and a hop up unit? ( also someone please explain what a hop up is) .. im only guessing its like the apex barrels for paintball but it says afew of these airsoft guns have them built in so i dont know.. thanks x]

Deadpool April 11th, 2012 21:11

Hop ups are built in the guns.

They are the device that gives backspin to the bbs so they hang longer in the air, giving the gun range and accuracy.

Curo April 11th, 2012 21:13

You will still need a battery and charger.

Coward April 11th, 2012 21:19

Ok thanks guys! so helpful and quick=D now it says the batterie type is N/A .. anyone own one of they and would happen to know what it runs on? or does it run on all types but have to be a certain size?.. =s

You can safely run that AEG on a 7.4 1300 - 1500mah batteries

Crunchmeister April 11th, 2012 21:26

Classic Army > G&G by a LONG shot. Externally CA are one of the best. THey're very hard to match, let alone beat.

Internally, it's a hell of a lot better than the G&G. Some claim there are problematic (inexpensive) internal parts like the piston body and tappet plates. But I haven't seen that myself. I'm running a CA M15 (same mechbox at that MP5) and finally blew my stock piston after 4 years of pretty heavy use.

Coward April 11th, 2012 21:48

where would the batteries go in the BT mp5a5? and i cant find any of the batteries you said on the site Wildcard

wildcard April 11th, 2012 21:50

The batteries go on the foregrip and you can buy batteries at eliteairsoftbatteries.com, they make custom batteries for airsoft. All my bateries are from them or airsoftparts.ca

Coward April 11th, 2012 22:37

would G&P 8.4v 1600mah NiMH nunchuck style battery work and fit this?.. i think i'd be easyer to buy everything from the same store

wildcard April 11th, 2012 22:53

yes but you either have to convert the connectors from deans(batteries) to small tamiya(gun) or vice versa

Curo April 11th, 2012 23:50

Use deans the whole way. Much more reliable.

If you're in Aldergrove I know it's far but it will definitely be worth your time to go to Airsoft Gear in Richmond. Not only can the owner (Optix) take down your AV info for you but they have all manner of parts and accessories that even if you don't buy a gun from them at least it's worth it to take a look at all the accessories and gear they have.

Also, for the VFC PDW if it's the "DX" version I believe you get a PEQ15 in the box however no battery. I would highly recommend either the 7.4V "PEQ" LiPo or the 9.9V "PEQ" LiFePo4, or even an 11.1V LiPo.

Talk to the staff there as well, they all know most of their stuff and are knowledgeable in their own rights in different areas (GBB's, AEG's, Spring sniper rifles, gear, electronics/batteries, etc.).

Coward April 13th, 2012 08:15

nice i will for sure! and im going to go with the mp5a5 =D i believe lol

maybe another noob question but do the games / fields have a mag cap limit? and whats a good amount of mags to have and are pistols important? for shooting at close range, less fps? i dont know lol

Killyin April 13th, 2012 10:57

I shoot close to 20 bps and carry 700 rounds on me in 7 magazines. :o

usually it depends on the host or games, there are ammo limits imposed on players in some games. Ideally you can run with hicaps at first and slowly build your accesories as you go. I only use a 30rnd mags because thats all they have for PTW5 I have about 28 of them and in a typical CQB I would use about 8-9 depending on teh scenario, in milsim the most I ever used was 22 mags.

General load out if I was using a MP5 would be 12 mags, 6 pistol mags and my side arm

5kull April 13th, 2012 11:17

WARNING: You will probably blow your budget the first time you go to that store because of all the cool stuff you will see! My suggestion, buy only the very basics and go back home to enjoy what you just purchased.

Most players blow their budget on their first visit to a store and end up buying another kit when they discover that they prefer something else:)

Between G&G and CA, Classic Army is the easy choice.

MP5 will be a bit harder to find since everyone usually goes with the AR or AK platform when starting out. Doesn't mean that there doesn't exist some MP5's there, IIRC they have 2 on consignment right now (both pretty decent starter packages at decent prices).

As far as a ammo/mag limit goes, regular skirmish days, anything goes but try not to be a BB hose or you'll drain your batteries fast.

Pistol wise, I've only really gotten like 3 pistol kills in my entire time playing airsoft and only pulled out my pistol maybe 10-15 times but that's mainly because I tend to engage at longer distances (at least 50-60 feet) and only pull out a pistol when I'm engaging below my Minimum Engagement Distance for my rifle.

Also I'll echo the "buy a few pieces at a time" sentiment. I did it that way and am starting to amass a collection of gear that I like and not useless stuff that I use once and put in the back of the closet forever or go and sell it after one use.

Wantabe_Warrior April 13th, 2012 13:39

I'm still a noob, and I'll also echo the "buy bits and pieces" advice. And lighter rig are MUCH nicer to run around in. Also, again buy quality stuff, when I started out my rifle broke before it's first game, I spent months gaming with the worst pistol in Canada. By the way, when you get your gun TAKE IT TO A GUNSMITH, AND GET IT GET IT SHIMMED!!

I'm about the opposite. I've got a rifle, a submachine gun, and a shotgun. I've gotten maybe 10 kills between all three. On my pistol, I've gotten at least three times that easily. @ Coward It has little to do with the gun, I think, and more to do with your style and the environment to play in. Obviously you don't get many chances to break out a bolt-action rifle in indoor Toronto. Maybe check out your local fields and see what the other people are using. I have no idea what they're running where you live.

For sure, it's all about your play style and environment. Since I tend to engage at longer distances I rarely pull out my pistol. Some people are always rushing hard and getting up close and pull up their pistols, others have BASR's and use their Mk23's when below 100 feet, others like me will tend to stay back and sit there and provide direct suppressive fire for others to come in for an assault. At the end of the day all you really need is a pair of good boots, PB goggles (Panther Paintball the main field we play at REQUIRES them, some other fields do not and only require at minimum ballistics or somesuch), a gun, and money for field fee/BB's and other incidentals.

Caveat; I haven't counted my pistol kills while playing CQB since that's a whole different thing.

will at 9.6v 1500 mAH foxfire mini work in it? / fit
