[Position Filled] Actors/Extras needed for action scene

We are currently hiring actors and extras for a feature film that is being filmed in Vancouver. Applicants must be military-minded and have their own gear. By gear we mean:

1 x set of U.S. MARPAT (preferably Urban MARPAT)
1 x black drop-down thigh holster
1 x handgun (no revolvers)
1 x black military-style boots
1 x black tactical vest (if not black, please specify)
1 x AEG (Preferably a model that is currently used in the American forces)

If you have any props or accessories that will add to the “look” please let us know (the finer the details, the better).

Filming will begin in two weeks (mid-June) and will only be for one day (most likely Sunday).

If you know anyone who would like to be an extra in this please let them know and of course if you, yourself, would like to join us and have some fun filming what you know best, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Here are the contact details:

Do you guys have all the proper permits and permissions that would allow you to film something of this nature?

made Man May 28th, 2005 20:12

how much does it pay?

If it's enough, then i have an excuse to get MARPAT :)

Crystal Insight May 28th, 2005 20:44

Permits...yes. We have them ALL.

Pay...no. This position is a volunteer basis. But look what you get out of it: being in a feature film, position on your resume, meet people in the industry and all the great things that come with making a movie! Just think think of the credits... "Army Guy #1 - Your name here".

Look, we're gonna have a blast. The commitment, let me repeat and bold, commitment is for one day most likely the Sunday in the middle of June. I hope these answers can help. More comments questions welcome.

GMTII May 28th, 2005 20:51

Oh man I would kill to be in this movie. Do you guys have a story line/ story boards or a script you could post up (I'm interested but cannot even audition because I am too far away)

If you are paying the flight I will get time off work, it'd be fun to do the shoot but not so fun as transfering my hard earned money to Tru's pockets.

Crystal Insight May 28th, 2005 21:25

I WISH! No really, if we had the budget we would. Unfortunately, this is an independant feature film, but there will be more and who knows? Like i said, never say never. Thanks again for interest though! You can also keep updated through the website etc etc.

FOX_111 May 28th, 2005 21:33

why is there a password required to view the preview movie?

Lord Jebus May 28th, 2005 21:49

I have an MP5 PDW with a Socom silencer on it... looks really cool...
as for gear... I have Woodlands and a black mesh crossdraw tactical vest.
I can look around to see if I can find a hand gun I can borrow or rent.

I'd be interested if that is good enough for ya... but I don't think I'm gonna go buy anything just for this... I've worked in the movie business before so I know how it works generally.

Crystal Insight May 28th, 2005 21:49

The reason there is a password setting is because the movie hasn't been released yet. There are privacy issues with pre-screenings so only cast/crew and investors and see progress of the actual film. We will of course update the website with pics and clips when we can.

midgetspy May 28th, 2005 22:30

This promises to be the least accurate film with the military in it, ever.

Crystal Insight May 28th, 2005 22:33

Even worse than Stargate SG-1?

Jokes aside, I will tell you that I am a military/airsoft enthusiast and have been for a few years now. Even if its only for my sake, I wish to keep the integrity of the military and airsoft in tact, in this movie. I am a perfectionist and won't rest until everthing IS perfect. I hope that puts some of your fears to rest...

[Edit: I understand what your fears are..so let me state that we are looking for serious airsofters only. We want the scenes to be as R-E-A-L as possible. So if that means denying casting to trigger happy 13/14 or 15 year olds, so be it...as long as the integrity of what we're trying to portray is as close to the real thing as possible. No offense to 13/14 or 15 year olds.]

midgetspy May 28th, 2005 23:09

Yeah, asking a bunch of airsofters to wear miscellaneous kit with any gun will really make it PERFECT.

Nic

Crystal Insight May 28th, 2005 23:13

Point noted, I hope the corrections i made in the original post will clear things up a bit

Shugart May 28th, 2005 23:19

How many extra's are you looking for exactly?

Enough to fill in as background army units. Or a few guys to act as a "squad".

Also, aren't you looking for a certain Physique. I'm pretty sure you don't want someone that looks like Michael Crooks acting out one of the roles.

(No offence to anyone that looks like Michael Crooks, except Crooks himself.)

Crystal Insight May 28th, 2005 23:33

Good questions Shugart, all the way from Mississauga...

We are looking for 3-4 extras that will make up a "squad". In regards to physique, we are looking for people that look like they ARE in the military. Ya know, fit.

Gooseman May 28th, 2005 23:47

have you tried the BCAC forums?

http://www.bcairsoft.com/forum/

BCAC has a lot of current and former military guys. I've also played with them and can vouch for them being fit..

MacDonald May 28th, 2005 23:50

I'll do it I have all the gear....I am free.......I like cheese sandwiches too

Crystal Insight May 29th, 2005 00:08

Cheese sandwiches WILL be on set!

concept_8 May 29th, 2005 00:40

Just a suggestion,... you might be better off trying for a pure black uniform requirement, cause I can't see all that many worth while ppl who would suit the role having full urban marpat uniforms yet seeing as how it's a pretty new camo type.
From the sounds of it you're looking for a smaller squad based senario being that specific.
If so and you realy want it to be authentic looking you'd better start doing your home work on marine tactics and movement procedures, and be prepared to spend alot of time getting it out of whoever shows up.
Throwing a bunch of guys who probably don't know each other or what you want from the scenes together, and telling them to just go at it just won't cut it as anything usefull for any kind of movie.

Crystal Insight May 29th, 2005 01:03

Point taken. I can say that i've worked under these conditions before, taken random airsofters and put them together in a movie, and I must say, it worked out real well. Everyone wanted to have fun but be professional at the same time. I didnt have to explain any techno babble or teach them tactics. I hope by now that if someone is into airsoft, then they'd know their tactics too. But, we'll see, we'll have dry runs to practie first.

concept_8 May 29th, 2005 02:33

good luck with it all, hope it works out for ya.
It'd be cool if you can post some of the vid some time too even if it's after the movies done.
I know I wouldn't mind seeing how it turns out.

HGI May 29th, 2005 02:37

Well I'm a fit 22year old and a full set of CADPAT w/ a M4A1/M203 and Glock 19 sidearm if that works for you... I'm living in Tofino vancouver Island but if you need me give me a shout at j_labbe@hotmail.com
I also got photos of all my gear if needed.

airsoft

HGI,
we've been contacted by a team from Kelowna that have matching Multicam dress so we've chosen to go with them. CADPAT we've found was too light for the camera. Thanks or the interest though, I'll make sure to let you know if we have any future projects that could possibly benefit from your help. In the meantime, we'll try and keep the website updated so you can check the progress. Thanks again!

Prowler May 29th, 2005 05:09

I live in Surrey, Full CADPAT uniform and M4 Commando (m733).

Have been thinking about getting marpat for a second uniform and will most likely have a pistol by that time. I have a feeling you would be more successfull look wise if you use an all CADPAT squad. Unless you HAVE to use american military units in your film.

Anyways I have a question: Do you have an example of your work that we can see that will give us an idea of your professionalism in the movie making industry?

One more: What garantee do we have that we will be protected by law to use our AEG's on your movie set and what attention would be taken to ensure that all owners of airsoft will be using them in a safe manner?

I hope you came expecting a few disbelievers, we feel very protective about our sport and the publicity it recieves. All we require is a little bit more info.

if you need me, contact me at prowler@prowlerspace.org

Crystal Insight May 29th, 2005 05:39

Prowler,
We have discussed which type of camo we would like to use and have found that CADPAT is too green. In some cases the green looks almost neon. MARPAT is newer and has duller colours. Also, we have been contact by a group that has access to MULTICAM and well...its MULTICAM!!

For examples of our work, you can check out the http://www.spankthefilm.com
"SPANK" is our first short film that has screend in over 20 film festivals, received 16 awards and is the 6th indie-film in Canadian history to 'out-gross' it's budget (that means we actually got to pay the cast!)

Information on THIS feature film, can be found at: http://www.projectgrey.com

The only guarantee we can give you is that our location is on private property, OUT of view from the public, is notorious for having films being filmed there AND we have all filming permits. This is not the first time we've filmed a movie, its also not the first time we've used airsoft, and i dont think it will be the last.

Thanks for the input and interest...keep 'em coming!

silent_lemon May 29th, 2005 07:08

I was the sniper in a 'movie' shot with expensive cameras...80k+, which to me means that it was pro:)

I got shot and did a dying thing while shooting my beretta in the air while dying and collapsing to the ground, wearing my ghillie of course...then the guy who shot me walked up to me and kicked my side and i rolled over on my back, exposing...the grenade in my hand...BOOM! <insert CG here!>

it was great fun, in a rainy GVRD river area somewhere out in langley a forest...

they rewarded us with snacks and beer. Oh and Xbox and playstation after. It was fun.

The worst part was the drive out there.

Id definately do it, but all I have is cadpat cadpat cadpat...but cmon...how many people in vancouver have a replicated SVD dragunov to offer for a movie....take me take me!...US forces would use a dragunov if they actually wanted to be cool. like me.

also have an MG36. glock 19, 2 m92 berettas, one OD one black. mmm and im 19 and like drinking. theres my resume. have at it
