I figure Canadian soldiers that need pistols to shoot people, get P226s. Soldiers that cannot be allowed to be captured get browning HPs.

Are there people in the CF who have weapons that don't need to shoot the enemy?



WTF? Well I'am pretty sure no one in the CF wants to get captured. What do you mean people who aren't allowed to get captured get a Browning?

From what I've seen(here in Canada, haven't been overseas yet) the majority of the CF still uses the Browning Hi Power. Although certain pers like MPs and Naval Boarding party are issued the Sig.



Medics are not Combat Arms. Yes there are medics attached to Infantry Platoons, but they are still a support trade(forget if they fall under Cbt SP or CSS)

I said pistols, not weapons.
High ranking officers get brownings, soldiers that need sidearms in the field get 226s.
Reliable gun for people who need it, old rusty gun for people that hopefully won't need to use it.

Depends where you are. Some units get the Sig, some still have the Browning. I haven't been in a unit yet where I've been given anything newer than the C7A1, although I've been able to fire the newer stuff during trials and testing. There's a timeframe poster you see at a lot of bases that spells out what units are getting what kit and when. It's no longer accurate time wise, but unit wise it shows the order of who is getting what. If you can find a copy somewhere it spells it out for you.

sorry to quote an old post...but...where did you see accuracy in these 50+ year old scrap metal guns?

Southern Drive Exercise, St. Augustine (Fort Bragg) and Fort Knox.
I fired it personally on the combat pistol range and shot a perfect score at multiple distances ranging from 15 to 100 feet, with a mag change.
This was computerized 6 target range with small infantry targets.

That is impressive to me, that out that far (100 feet) the weapon was still effective.

I find it a very accurate pistol as well, so long as you keep in good practice pistol shooting. Very good power to it as well, when I was in Bosnia in the early 90's the Dutch troops there were always trying to get a hold of Canadian 9mm rounds for their Uzis as their rounds weren't particularly powerful.

+1...age does not mean scrap metal. They are not new and not as pretty as the newer models out there but IMHO they will take down hajii just as well and just as fast. I loved firing them and felt very safe when I was wearing one.

i love everything about the CF browning. i was at the 41st CBG open house and i was checking out all the guns, gear and vehicles. but my fav gun was the 9mm

Age doesn't turn a firearm into scrap.

Now some newer pistols will have nicer ambidextrous controls, lighter weight or Tritium sights but it's the guy dropping the hammer that makes the difference. Not how many movies or TV shows you see it placed in.

I think that the reason some people hate these things is because most of the ones still used in the CF are super old and are prone to jamming. I know I was on a range in the summer and about 60% of them jammed within the first magazine of shots fired.

I can't speak for the newer ones because in the reserves we still use the old ass ones.

meh, our BHPs are too long in the tooth now, their biggest and worst feature is the lack ofa usefull safety...yes they have one but it can easily get knocked off and if you are carrying it cocked.,..thats a bad thing.I love my personal BHP, its a tack driver, shoots well and is almost 30 years old.....but
I would take my issue 225 over the current issue BHP anyday.

We used to carry the Browning with an empty chamber, as it was usually easier to rack the slide than get the safety off.

I wouldn't take one over a current Sig 226, or H&K USP, and so on by the way if I was picking from the wheel of guns.
