I ordered a modify, see if it works.

Installed the new cutoff leaver. Did not fix the issue. Comparing it to the stock one in there, the stock one does not look worn at all.

ascu mosfet motor and mosfet getting warm
just a quick question guys. Is it normal for the motor as well as the mosfet to get warm? it's a brand new ascu. it works fine but the motor and mosfet itself gets warm during cycling.
|
Warm, yes
Hot, most probably Hot so you have a hard time holding it in your hands, not at all |
If it gets to the point where the comp shuts down from overheating, you have a problem

heres my setup. i'm running an 11.1 20c lipo along with the amp T5000L high torque motor.i bought 2 brand new ascu mosfet units. i installed one and it was heating up the wires, mosfet and the motor as well, starting from the battery wires and moving down into the mosfet and motor. i originally thought it was the ascu mosfet kit being bad, so i replaced it with another brand new one. i made sure to be extra careful on install and double checked everything. everything works awesome, but once again the wires and mosfet, as well as motor is heating up. not smoldering hot but warm enough to notice. once it heats up i stop operation. should i swap the small tammy for a deans? should i try a different motor? i'm lost at this point.
i'm just on the fence here with mosfets. it's the first time ive used one, so i don't know if it's normal to heat up, or if something is malfunctioning. i could see getting one bad apple out of the bunch, but 2 is very unlikely. |
What gauge is your wires and what connector do you use?
|
My ver. 1 the motor gets pretty warm under lots of semi shooting. The main unit seems to stay ok temp wise. My wiring is changed from the board to motors with the modify low resistance wiring (my version had the bad wiring insulation & jugglez gave me some wire to fix mine up)
|
Semi shooting causes more heat to the motor as it constantly starts and stops, compared to auto shooting. I didn't read the entire post since the last time I wrote in here, but what about your gear shimming and motor height? (If you didn't state these earlier....)
|
mechbox is shimmed nicely, gears spin freely with little to no wobble. motor height is good no whining or grinding. as for the gauge of the wiring it came with 18 awg rated for 200 degree wiring. it's the newest version from ascu. heres a link of the mosfet : http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_inf...oducts_id=9191
if need be i can re-wire it to deans, but as of now it's wired to a small tammy. would re-soldering the board to low resistance wiring help? i mean it says it's rated up to 12v. |
Try a different motor. I'm not familiar with that amp T5000L, but if it's a power hog, you'll get a hot setup. I've worked on a gun running Systema Magnum motor and that got everything really hot. Too hot to handle. So check that out as the wiring should be good enough, but do upgrade to Deans.
|
swapped it to deans, i don't know which motor will be compatible, because the unit needs a good motor with strong magnets. i tried an echo1 brand new high torque and the system would function at all. any suggestions on motors with strong magnets that aren't power hogs?

thanks for the input on motors. as for spring rate, i'm only running an m115. im using it for a cqb weapon and only using semi. i will try a different motor. right now i'm right at field limit, 398-400 with .2s. i had a couple spike at 405-406 but most consistently was 398-400
