Some people on red-alliance.net frequent airsoftgun.ru. There are tons of soldiers on that forum.

VDV Paratrooper

Hey guys,

took my new and improved VDV impression for a spin last Sunday.

I got new Para boots from Splav in Russia, and am wearing the old RD-54 back pack and afghan chest rig. I am going for a 1990's look.

The RPK74 is the SRC model and the AK74 is VFC with a Classic army 40mm grenade launcher.

Looking good Beastor! Just a question though, what type of helmets do the VDV usually use?

beastor March 6th, 2009 11:30

Thanks bud,

As far as I am aware they wore same as the normal infantry, the standard Russian Army helmet (SSh-60 helmet) but nowadays they probably wear the new kevlar helmets you see the Russian army using.

Here are some pics of me using the 1980's vintage SSh-60, its still used by some units in the russian army today.

Are the pouches you have on your belt made for a smersh? I'm having a hard time finding information relating to how the smersh stuff works.

lolinternet.

A lot of Russian units still have steel pots (SSh-60 and 68). They even make Flora covers for them.

The latest VDV (and Naval Infantry) pictures i've seen show them mostly using 6B7-1L helmets.

Flora, VSR. Ukraine still actively uses the ssh-68 and even have a TTSKO cover for it. Simple soviet philosophy really, don't fix whats not broken.

I'm liking the look of the new 6B7-1L helmets except for the fact that Russia is turning into some NATO wannabe, it looks like a damn PASGT.

As long as they end up painting big red stars on the forehead area they can use whatever they like on their heads.

Where did you score the digital Flora? O_o

Desmodus May 14th, 2009 22:00

Yea.. like really... how in the hell did you get your hands on that?

666 May 14th, 2009 23:50

Probably somebody with connections in Russian army shipped it over. It's issued to some VDV units and is still pretty rare. From what I've heard it's not final design yet.
P.S. This uniform was designed by a guy who makes useless high end clothes, something like Russian version of Versace :)
